  2. Coming to America • Hakeem came to America from Lagos Nigeria.

  3. Hakeem the Dream Hakeem! Standing at a whopping 7’0, 255 lbs. Hakeem was an ideal basketball star.

  4. University of Houston • Hakeem came from his home country to play under coach Guy Lewis. • He also had three trips to the final four.

  5. Houston Loves Hakeem! Hakeem was drafted into the NBA in 1984. He was playing for the Houston Rockets. He also played for the Toronto Raptors. He was an amazing center.

  6. Hakeem’s Religion • Hakeem went to a Muslim high school. • He doesn’t talk about religion much.

  7. Ending his career • After a 16 year long career. Hakeem left the NBA leading in blocks with an outstanding 3,830 blocks.

  8. Akeem • Hakeem was known as “Akeem” until he added an “h” to his name in 1991. • It was easier to spell his name..

  9. Rings • After leading his team to 2 NBA championships.. • He couldn’t have the rings because of his Muslim beliefs, so he allowed them to be auctioned off.

  10. Soccer? • When Hakeem came to the University of Houston to play soccer! • He had never played basketball before then. • He must have been better at basketball.
