  6. ERAS • ERAS opens September 15th- Submit ASAP • Do not have to wait on LORs to submit • The best way to compare residents’ skills at programs- closely compare place “A” PGY-X to place “B” PGY-X

  7. Interviews • Apply and interview at a range of programs: High, mid, low “tiered”- There are no official rankings of programs, just based on how many people want a limited number of spots (supply/demand)– usually correlates with good training • Usually arrive the afternoon before the interview day for the dinner • Ask the residents questions at the dinner- they have the best insight • Always have a few “go to” questions that you can ask any interviewer • Most were 1 on 1, some 2 on 1, and one place had 5 on 1. • One place used simulators to assess hand eye coordination and we also had to put pedicle screws in a SawBones spine
