  1. Stepping Out in Style in Shrugs and Boleros

  2. Shrugs and boleros are always considered as value-added garments. Both are worn over another dress or outfit so that the two complement each other. If you have a bolero or a shrug of neutral color and design, you can match it with several dresses in your wardrobe and each time look different when you step out. This is how shrugs and boleros can add value to your collection of dresses.

  3. While there are several differences between bolero and a shrug there are many similarities too. First, both are all-occasion garments. Wear casual lace or knitted shrug or bolero for fun times with friends or family.Evening shrugs and boleroswhile adding to the glam quotient are suited for formal affairs or fine dining experience. These are more elaborate in design and often have intricate embroidery and embedded beads. The material too is heavy brocade or silk. These pieces are quite expensive and can set you back by a few hundred dollars.

  4. Both evening shrugs and boleros are all-weather garments. Ones made of light lacy materials are ideal for summer while the thicker materials help to keep out the winter chill even if you match it with a beautiful sleeveless dress.

  5. While a shrug and a bolero are mentioned in the same breath, there are several distinctions between the two. A shrug is a cropped type of cardigan that is usually knitted from lace or light wool. Shrugs are available in various designs and patterns and come in short or long sleeves. Shrugs are more casual than boleros but not as much as a shawl draped over the shoulders. While a shrug is typically a form of cropped cardigan that stops just below the bust line you can also get long flowing shrugs that are short in front but trail behind you below the waist level. Boleros on the other hand have a formal look about them and you will get more choices than shrugs if you look for evening shrugs and boleros. Essentially a short tailored jacket, boleros are made of stiffer fabrics like brocade or heavily embroidered silk with the sides in the front meeting at a point or being buttoned down the front. It resembles a matador’s chaquetilla and was a rage in the early 1950s as ideal wear over petticoats or flowery summer dresses. Though they dropped out of sight in the mid-90s, bolero jackets were back with a bang in the 2000s and have continuously been a rage in women’s fashion since then. Apart from the glam aspect of evening shrugs and boleros, there is another critical benefit of these garments for heavier women. It helps to hide the flab around the upper arms and the mid-riff, areas where the fat usually accumulates. You can wear a pretty sleeveless dress and wear a bolero jacket over it, never mind if you are a plus-size woman.
