Secretariat Update • Welcome new Participating Organizations • ASREN and ARCSSTEE (bringing number of African POs to 9) • OSS has submitted application – already participate in WGLCA • EO data access survey drafted in partnership with AUSWG, soon to be launched • Resource mobilization • INFRASUPP on research infrastructure policy (DICT) (closed) • Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation RFQ, due 5-Aug-2016 • AUC Grant on food security (AfriGAM), due 17-Aug-2016 • GPSDD Collaborative data innovations, due 1-Sept-2016 • H2020 on food security (AfriGAM), due Feb-2017 • Preparations for upcoming events (see agenda item 7)

Secretariat Update • AfriGEOSS Steering Committee, 25 – 26 Feb, South Africa • 4 thematic areas: food security and agriculture, water resource management, urban development and forest management • 10 (l) establish Coordination Teams for each • 5 (f) AUC-AfriGEOSS Partnership TF: consideration on the value proposition for the resources AfriGEOSS envisages to be made available through the mandates • 7(h) implement communication flow between Working Group (i.e. CT), Programme Board Members, EXCOM Members and the Cuacus • 8 (i) DICT to focus its work on developing Towards a Coordinated Data Acquisition Strategy for Africa • 13 (s) DICT to consider aspects of its action plan to be developed into proposals for funding • 11(o) establish Coordination Team for Capacity Building • 14 (t) AfriGEOSS Symposium Technical Committee to provide updated draft Symposium agenda to the SC for consideration

Secretariat Update • Call for action to all • Share information on ongoing projects – especially those you involved in to help build inventory of active projects • Include relevant AfriGEOSS activities in response new projects • Fly the AfriGEOSS flag wherever possible • Egypt at GEO-CRADLE North Africa,Cairo • Egypt at Awareness and CB of NGOs & Stakeholders workshop, Cairo • Always look for potential synergies and collaborations • AfriGEOSS in the UNGGIM-Africa Action Plan • Officially represent GEO and AfriGEOSS at events • South Africa at UNGGIM 4th HLF in Addis Ababa • Gabon at GPSDD workshop in Sierra Leone • South Africa at the RAPP Workshop in Pretoria • Share events you about to participate in with the Secretariat
5. 1st AfriGEOSS Symposium Outcomes • Establishing National GEO Coordination Mechanisms • Strengthen the AfriGEOSS Governance Structure • Bring AfriGEOSS into political discussions to inform and influence policy formulation • Promote and Ensure the use of EO Data and Information in decision-making • Confirm the mandate of the Data & Infrastructure Coordination Team and consolidate its working plans (Develop the framework for a ‘Coordinated Data Acquisition Strategy”) • Establishment of thematic coordination mechanisms within AfriGEOSS • AfriGEOSS Agriculture Monitoring (AfriGAM) • AfriGEOSS Sustainable Forest Management • Continue engagements with the private sector and industry (AARSC) • Contribution to the GEO Work Programme
6. AfriGEOSS Implementaion Plan • Developed around the 1st AfriGEOSS Symposium Outcomes and the recommendations of the Steering Committee • Needs to comprise of activities driven by the community rather than just those by the Secretariat • Challenges: • Articulation of available resources for 2017 – 2019
