  1. The READ 180 Classroom Mrs. Link

  2. READ 180 READ 180 is an interactive intervention program created by Scholastic that focuses on building comprehension skills.

  3. How does it work? • The READ 180 classroom is divided into 3 areas: • READ 180 software • Small Group • Independent Reading • Students will spend 15 minutes in each of the areas.

  4. READ 180 Software • The READ 180 software provides individualized practice through its adaptive software. • Adaptive software assesses students’ particular needs and individualizes learning accordingly.

  5. READ 180 Software • There are 5 components to the READ 180 Software: • Reading Zone • Word Zone • Spelling Zone • Success Zone • Writing Zone

  6. Small Group • Students will be placed in a small group based on their Lexile (reading ability) level. • In Small Group we work through Literacy Design Modules created by Scholastic in the rBook. • Students receive guided practice and direct instruction while reading passages and learning new vocabulary.

  7. Independent Reading • Students will be reading Scholastic’s high interest, Lexile leveled independent reading books. • Each book comes with a graphic organizer to aid in comprehension. • Students will take a Reading Counts quiz on their independent reading book when they are finished.

  8. Will there be homework? • OF COURSE!!! The students NEED to be reading at home! Remember, practice makes…better! • I require that students read at home and have 3 AR points (from books on their level) each month. This is how I know they are reading outside of school. This will be a grade!!!

  9. How can my student test out? • Students are placed into reading intervention based on their STAR scores (25th% and below) and a below grade level Lexile score from the Scholastic Reading Inventory. • In order for a student to show they no longer need reading intervention, we require at least 2 consecutive STAR scores above the 25% AND a grade-level Lexile score on the Scholastic Reading Inventory.
