  6. Understanding Guides • Publisher has many types of layout guides to help you position objects in a publication. Each template has guides already in place, depending on the type of template you are using, including margin guides, grid guides, column guides, row guides, and baseline guides. • You can create your own guides by simply placing the pointer over the horizontal or vertical ruler. 7. Understanding Master Pages • If you want to drag layout guides manually, you must switch to the master page for the current publication. • The master page is a background page that includes placeholders for text and graphics as well as layout guides. • Simply press the Ctrl+M keys to switch to the master page. Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory

  8. Entering Text • Using Publisher templates, you can add text directly into text boxes or panel headings. A panel heading is the area provided for the title or heading of a project or section of a project. • The page navigator, located in the lower-left side of the window, allows you to move quickly from one page to another when you are adding text to your publication. Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory

  9. Inserting Pictures • You can insert pictures as new objects in Publisher, or you can replace existing pictures with newly inserted pictures in the same location. • To insert a picture, simply click Insert on the menu bar, point to Picture, and then click From File. • When you select a picture, the Picture toolbar automatically appears, offering you tools for manipulating the picture such as cropping it and adjusting its brightness and contrast. Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory

  10. Working with Objects • Text boxes, shapes, clip art, and pictures are all objects. When you right-click an object, a menu appears that includes the “Format” command. • The Arrange menu has many important features for manipulating objects. For example, using the Align and Distribute commands, you can align objects by their tops, bottoms, centers, and left or right sides. • You’ll find the Group, Ungroup, and Regroup commands on the Arrange menu. • In Publisher, you also have the ability to stack or layer items using the Order commands. 11. Using the Content Library • The Content Library is a task pane used for storing text and graphics for future use. • To get started, right-click an object, then click Add to Content Library. Here you can assign a descriptive name to your content and place it in one of the three available categories: Business, Personal, or Favorites. • To use an item from the Content Library, drag the item to the page or click the content arrow, then click Insert. Inserting Text from a Word Document • When your publication calls for a large amount of text, it is sometimes easier to create it in Microsoft Word and then insert it into Publisher • Create a text box as a placeholder to put your text into. Click Insert on the menu bar, and then click Text File. Once you find the text file you want, click OK, and the text falls right into place. Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory

  13. Using Find and Replace • The Find and Replace task pane searches your publication for a specific word or phrase and replaces it with a new one. • You can find and replace a word or phrase one at a time using the Find Next and Replace buttons or replace them all at once using the Replace All button. Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory

  14. Checking the Spelling in a Publication • Make sure you always read your work carefully after you check the spelling to increase the likelihood of finding content errors. • To check the spelling in Publisher documents, click Tools on the menu bar, point to Spelling, then click Spelling. • For each misspelled word, Publisher offers a list of suggestions to replace the misspelled word. Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory

  15. Summary • Layout guides include column, row, baseline, and margin guides, and help you align objects. You can change guide settings in the Layout Guides dialog box. Ruler guides are dragged from the rulers. • Publisher templates come with text box placeholders. You can add text directly into text boxes or panel headings. When you have entered text, it’s best to zoom in on the text so that you can easily modify it. • In addition to using Publisher clip art, you can insert your own photographs and illustrations using the Insert command. Pictures can be modified using the Picture toolbar. Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory

  16. Summary (continued) • Publisher provides many ways to work with objects. On the Arrange menu, you can align and distribute objects, layer objects, rotate and flip objects, and group them together. Grouping allows you to treat a group of objects as one object. • The Content Library task pane allows you to store text and graphics to be used over and over. You can add objects to the Content Library and assign them a descriptive name and category. To use an item, you can drag it from the task pane onto the page. Microsoft Office 2007: Introductory

  17. Summary (continued) • To insert text, create a text box, then, using the Insert menu, click Text File and navigate to the location of the text file.
