  4. History Rotations • Every day, your child will be responsible for: • History Journal • Glossary Work • Daily Geography • Periodically, your child will be responsible for: • History projects • Biographical reports History will be taught on Tues/Thurs.

  5. Science • Science is a testable subject this year. The major topics covered this year will be: • Safety • Properties of Matter • Mixtures and Solutions • Forces of Motion • Forms of Energy • Fossil Fuels • Earth’s Changes • Sun, Earth, & Moon • Patterns • Ecosystems • Life Cycles • Inherited Traits • Health We will go to the lab frequently and journal weekly! Science M-W-F

Lunch and Recess • Recess • Students should be dressed appropriately for the weather • During the winter, make sure students have labeled winter coats, gloves, hats, and scarves • Lunch • Please pack nutritious foods • Students should take money directly to the cafeteria in the morning • Deposits can be made directly into your child’s account at mynutrikids.com • Please put names on lunch boxes *If your child has received free/reduced lunch in the past, or if you are interested in free/reduced lunch for the current school year, please ask the office for a form. New forms need to be submitted each year. *Visit www.nutrikids.com to register your child and manage his/her lunch account online. (You can even see what they buy each day!)

  7. Discipline • A school wide discipline system is in place. • Your child will receive a mark for infractions. • Please look at your child’s folder each Monday and discuss any marks. • You only need to sign your child’s folder once a week in the parent signature column. • Major or continued negative behaviors will be addressed with a phone call home or email.

  8. Online Access • Go to www.granburyisd.org to access the following information • Your child’s grades in real time • Sign up for e-alerts for your child’s teacher, school, and GISD • Access your child’s lunch account

  9. *Music* We go on Wednesday! Mrs. Mings is the teacher. *LIBRARY* Please return the library books each Tuesday. Mrs. Dawson is our Librarian. SPECIALS *Physical Education* Please wear tennis shoes on gym days. Mrs. Chiles and Mrs. Lawson are our P.E. teachers.

  10. Homework • AES has a new homework philosophy. • We feel your child’s time with you should be QUALITY time. Therefore, written homework will be minimal. Things you should look for and work on, even if they are NOT assigned include: • Spelling Stems • Reading for pleasure to increase fluency • Math facts • Occasional projects • As the STAAR tests draws near, expect some targeted skill practice.

  11. Absences • Due to state guidelines, a student is permitted no more than 10 absences in the course of one school year. • Whenever your child is absent from school, an excuse note is required when he/she returns. Please make sure it has your child’s first and last name, the date they missed and their homeroom teacher’s name. • Families have up to 3 school days to send in a note explaining their child’s absence in order for it to be counted as “excused.” Vacations will not be excused. • If you are emailing an excuse note to your child’s teacher, please include the attendance clerk in your email. Her email address is francile.phelps@granburyisd.org. • Our school day begins at 7:45. Your child will be marked tardy if they arrive after the bell.

  12. FIELD TRIPS • The PTO is generous enough to pay for a portion of our field trip. Extra money is occasionally needed to cover the cost. This is done through fundraising and donations. We will have several field trips this year. You will receive further information well in advance of the trip. Trips in the making: Camp Grady Spruce Crossland 9th Grade Center High School STEMS tour

  13. As you leave, take a moment to see your child’s classroom. Please sign the sign-in sheet in your child’s classroom before leaving. THANK YOU FOR COMING!
