Why FYE? ● To provide students with knowledge about AUC in an academic setting and in an engaging way ● To help them adjust and allow them to experience life at AUC ● To allow them to make new friends ● To prepare them to take full advantage of the top educational facilities __________________________________________________ Start up WorkFaculty Recruitment & Training • Fall ’06: 43 faculty from the three schools (HUSS, BEC & SSE) • Spring ’07: 14 faculty from the 3 schools • Student Leaders(FYE Ambassador Team) • A. Recruitment • FYE Ambassador Team • 100 student leaders: • ● 50 academic committee members (in-class student leaders) • ● 50 organizing committee members (social events and logistics) • B. Training Retreat : ● Leadership skills ● Team building & Bonding ● Self discovery & Risk taking

  3. The Program Fall ’06 ● 930 freshman ● 100 student leaders ● 43 faculty ● 25 administration Spring ’07 ● 160 freshman ● 50 student leaders ● 14 faculty ● 15 administration

  4. Day 1 (Introduction to AUC ) Plenary: ● Opening ceremony ● What is AUC? Interactive Session ● Discuss AUC’s mission statement & the liberal arts philosophy ● Engage in critical thinking skills ______________________________________________________ Day 2 (Academic & Career Goal-Setting) Plenary: ● Self knowledge, and personal and career goal-setting ● Academic options & study abroad opportunities Interactive Sessions: ● Academic and career goal-setting: how to make a decision about your major ● Learn about self- management, using time effectively and college customs and policies

Day 3 (Civic Engagement, Diversity & Student Life) Plenary: ● Develop an understanding of student service projects in different communities and the link between service and citizenship. ● Explore AUC’s cultural and social activities Interactive Session: ● Discuss the meaning of diversity in & out of class ● Reflect on how community service can affect personal growth, academic and professional skills, & the community _________________________________________________ Day 4 (Academic Integrity & AUC Majors) Plenary: ● Academic Integrity ● Learn about AUC’s three academic schools Interactive Session: ● Discuss and reflect on integrity & sign AUC’s code of ethics
