  1. Traffic Control Program Special Events – Involving Lot 7 and Lot 8 An introduction to policies and procedures when dealing with customers and vehicle traffic.

Introduction • This presentation will familiarize the student worker to working at special events that deal with Lot 7 and Lot 8 • This presentation will go over: • Area Familiarization • Location of Parking Lots • Locations of adjacent buildings • Locations of Parking lots • Setup Procedure • Sidewalk Blocking Cones • Sawhorses • Signage placement • Policies • Directing traffic between Lot 7 and Lot 8 • Stopping traffic to assist customers cross Stadium Road

  3. Area Familiarization • Know the location of the following buildings: • Blakeslee Stadium • Taylor Center • Myers Field House • Know locations of the following lots: • Lot 5 • Lot 7 • Lot 8 • Lot 9

Locations of Parking Lots • Lot 5 is the parking lot located North of the Taylor Center adjacent to Trafton Science Center. • Lot 7 is the parking lot in front of Blakeslee Stadium. • Lot 8 is the parking lot located South of the Taylor Center • Lot 9 is the parking lot located East of the Taylor Center (In Front of T.C.)

  6. Setup Procedures • When an event is taking place at Blakeslee Stadium the following must be setup: • Sidewalk Blocking Cones • Sawhorses • Signs

  7. Sidewalk Blocking Cones • Sidewalk blocking cones must be put in specific locations to instruct customers that they are not allowed walk down the sidewalk • This is to keep customers from attempting to cross stadium road except in designated areas.

  8. Sidewalk Blocking Cones • Area 1 – On sidewalk at gage intersection • Area 2 – On sidewalk outside of Myers field house entrance • Area 3 – On sidewalk near Taylor Intersection

  11. Sawhorses • Sawhorses need to be placed at the entrance to Lot 7 so ensure that people understand that they should not be crossing the street after an event.

  13. Signage • Signs need to be placed at the entrance to Lot 8 and Lot 7 instructing: • “No sidewalk exists here.” The sign should direct people to cross at the Taylor Intersection.

  15. Policies • The next slides go over some of the procedures that will be followed. • Failure to follow these procedures may result in suspension or other disciplinary sanctions up and/or including termination of employment. • There will be NO exceptions to these rules.

Policies – Regarding Lot 7 and Lot 8 • The traffic lanes on Stadium Road between Lot 7 and Lot 8 contain no crosswalk and should not be treated as an intersection where a traffic controller might be found. • At no point should any Traffic Control worker enter onto Stadium Road to direct traffic between Lot 7 and Lot 8.

  17. Policies • This also includes stopping traffic to help people cross the street. • Tell customers in a polite tone: • “No crosswalk exists here” • “Please cross the street at the Taylor Intersection.” • Customers who cross Stadium Road between Lot 7 and Lot 8 will do so at their own risk.

  18. Exiting and Entering Vehicles From Lot 7 and/or Lot 8 • Managing vehicles that enter and exit Lot 7 and Lot 8 should be done using curbside technique: • While standing at the curb; extend orange gloved hand, with or without orange coned flashlight, to stop oncoming traffic that would otherwise hit exiting or incoming vehicles. • Exception to prohibition on-street traffic control on Stadium Road includes: • When MSU or competing team members, coaches, and officials are crossing Stadium Road during which time traffic controllers may manage traffic lanes to ensure safety.

  19. Events at Taylor Center • Lot 7 gate should be shut prior to event start. This lot will remained closed. • If vehicles are in Lot 7 then a guard must be posted to open/close gate as customers leave. No one will be allowed to park after gold permit hours have expired.
