Can you outsource Quality

1. Well on the question of outsourcing one needs to identify which activities are ​core​​ to an organization and if Quality Management is one of them it obviously shouldn’t be outsourced. However in India even core production activities are outsourced to teams so don’t be surprised to find contract labours working on piece rates for every activity in an organization, so one shouldn’t be surprised to find Quality Management System activities outsourced too. Like with any activity there are obvious advantages and disadvantages of Outsourcing Quality activities. The obvious advantages are 1. Ability to limit costs by outsourcing 2. Get an external unbiased view of your organization 3. Get additional skills The disadvantages are 1. Consultants can be expensive at times 2. They have no responsibility they will always work within their scope of work which can be pretty restricted at times. 3. People might not follow their advice thinking that they are outsiders to the organization 4. Consultants will work in their time and space.
