  6. 1920 – First World Jamboree is held in England 1928 – Sea Scout Paul A. Siple Accompanies Commander Byrd to the Antartic

  7. 1930 – Cub Scouts program is launched in America 1937 – First National Jamboree in Washington

  8. 1940 – Royalties from “God Bless America” finance Urban Scouting 1941 – Robert Baden Powell dies 1943 – First Blue & Gold Banquet 1941 – Waite Phillips donates land for Philmont Scout Ranch 1949 – Over one million registered Cub Scouts

  9. 1955 – 1st Official Pinewood Derby 1956 – Boys’ Life circulation passes 1 million & is among the top 17 American magazines 1950 - The first Boy Scouts stamp is issued by the U.S. Post Office Dept.

  10. 1965 • Cub Scouts > 3 million boys • 500,000th Eagle Scout • 40th million Scout registered 1964 – The National Summertime Award is created to encourage year round Cub Scouting

  11. 1978 - Public Service advertising campaign featuring Gerald Ford 1978 - Five ranks are established for Cub Scouting: Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, and Arrow of Light 1970 – Project SOAR (Save Our American Resources) is launched

  12. 1986 – BSA is touched by the Challenger disaster as two crew members were active in Scouting as youths – Lt. Col. Ellison S. Onizuka (Eagle Scout) and Dr. Ronald E. McNair (Star rank) • 1980 • BSA’s 70th anniversary • Cub Scouting 50th • 30 millionth Cub Scout 1982 – Tiger Cub program field tested and implemented

  13. 1992 – Bilingual publication of Scouting literature is increased to serve Spanish-speaking parents and leaders 1990 – Pope John Paul II is presented with the BSA’s Distinguished Citizen of the World Commendation 1991 – BSA funds training leaders in the former Soviet Union and the writing of the Russian Scout handbook

  14. 2007 – Boys’ Life wins Best Youth Periodical of the Year 2005 – 75th Anniversary of Scouting 2007 – 100th Anniversary of Scouting. 21st World Jamboree held in England 2004 – Official Tiger Cub Uniform changed to blue shirt with orange neckerchief

  15. 100 millionth youth registered in Scouting; Membership exceeds 25 million 2008 – Our Blue and Gold Banquet Good Turn for America launched 2010 – BSA’s 100th Anniversary
