  4. Kami 神　かみ • Meaning spirits, or essence • Central objects of worship

  5. Ritual Purity • Most common for Shinto is Misogi禊　みそぎ • Usually under a waterfall

  6. Animism • The belief that spirits don’t exist just in humans

  7. Japanese Festivals • Most important to Shinto is Oshougatsu正月おしょうがつ

  8. Shinto Shrines • Purpose is to enshrine a kami • Approximately 100,000 known shrines in Japan Kamidana神棚 かみだな Komainu狛犬 こまいぬ Torii 鳥居 とりい
