  1. Expand a Sentence What are the two essential parts of a sentence? Every sentence must have these two parts of speech. • Subject noun and verb (predicate) Example: Bird moved.

  2. Bird moved. • How can you make these words more specific & vivid? • What kind of bird? • Write a vivid verb to replace moved. • Write your own two word sentence.

  3. Penguin waddled.

  4. Swallow swooped.

  5. Hummingbird hovered.

  6. Eagle soared.

  7. What can you add to the Subject noun to make it more interesting? Adjective • For example: • Portly penguin • Shy penguin • Frail penguin • Angry penguin • Elderly penguin • Wise penguin • Fluffy penguin

  8. What can you add to the verb to make it more interesting? Adverb (usually add an ly) • For example: • Portly penguin waddled aimlessly. • Shy penguin waddled cautiously. • Frail penguin waddled timidly. • Angry penguin waddled fearlessly.

  9. Reptile went. • How can you make these words more specific & vivid? • What kind of reptile? • Write a vivid verb to replace went. • Write your own two word sentence.
