  1. Polar Constellation Special Session Purpose of Meeting by: Dr. Linda Stathoplos NESDIS/OSPO Telephone: 301-817-4423 eMail: Linda.Stathoplos@noaa.gov

  2. Outline S-NPP Event Time Line April 11th Decision Memorandum on S-NPP as Primary PM Satellite Primary PM Satellite Decision Criteria S-NPP shared objectives mission Meeting objectives

  3. S-NPP declared as the primary afternoon satellite on May 1st, 2014 NOAA-19 assumed a Primary Services Mission Role (ADCS, SARSAT and SEM)

  4. S-NPP Primary PM Satellite Decision Memorandum April 11th, 2014 from NJO Director and OSPO Director to NESDIS Assistant Administrator. Provided high level justification for S-NPP to become the primary satellite in the afternoon orbit. Authorizes OSPO to prioritize ground support assets accordingly. Acknowledges the vital importance of the NOAA-19 mission and designates that satellite as the “Primary Services Mission” - SARSAT, A-DCS, SEM, data continuity and gap mitigation purposes. Focuses our actions to meet the challenges ahead in transitioning to the new Polar missions.

  5. Decision Criteria – based on Key Performance Parameters • Data Maturity • reached a mature stage • validated for operational use • User Readiness • ready to use within the end user’s systems • Information System Readiness • ground systems are operational and covered under an ATO. • Includes JPSS CGS and ESPC (NDE – eventually NDE 2.0 / PDA)

  6. NOAA and NASA S-NPP Shared Objectives: • Support NOAA’s operational mission • Provide data to meet science requirements continuity of NASA Earth Observing System (EOS) • Serve as risk reduction for the Joint Polar Satellite System • Uphold our agreements with key international stakeholders Note – Declaration of S-NPP as the primary afternoon satellite does not alter the priority or impact these shared objectives.

  7. Special Session Meeting Objectives • Provide a status update on: • Constellation status • NOAA-19 status • S-NPP status • Information about spacecraft and ground asset prioritization • Updates on: • NDE and products • Data access and top challenges going forward • Key upcoming events • Wrap up with comments or questions from stakeholders in attendance

  8. Today’s Agenda
