  1. Group paragraph writing Write a paragraph using both active and passive voice. Please follow the directions for the picture. Use the tense indicated. Please write at least four sentences in the passive. The other sentences can be active. Don’t forget your focus!

  2. Example: What did Michael Jackson do to himself? Use simple present and simple past tense. Possible Verbs to use for passive: change, white, add, remove Paragraph: Michael used to have short curly hair, but now his hair is changed. It is long and wavy. He also used to have black skin, but now his skin is whitened. In the past, he didn’t wear sunglasses, but now sunglasses are added to cover his eyes. His bowtie is also removed because he doesn’t wear one anymore.

  3. What has happened to Dubai? Remember the focus is on the changes to Dubai not on who made the city. Use present perfect Write at least four passive voice sentences, and two active voice. Possible Verbs for: build, plant, drive, construct, add, make, transform, change, remove Paragraph: Since 1991, Dubai has been changing. A lot of buildings have been built. A lot of facilities have been added. This has made Dubai more busy. The bridges and roads have been constructed, so transportation is more convenient. The desert has been transformed and plants have been planted.

  4. What will things look like after the tornado? (use future passive “will”OR“be going to”) Remember the focus is on what the scene will look like after the tornado. Also use active voice. Write at least four passive voice sentences, and two active voice. Possible Verbs to use in passive: Destroy, Wreck, Ruin, Lose, Hurt, Damage, Displace, kill, Paragraph: Everything will be damaged after the tornado. The houses will be destroyed, all the objects will be displaced, the animals will be killed, but the people are going to run away, so they won’t be hurt by the tornado. However, all the city will be ruined.

  5. Describe the scene. Use past tense and past continuous. Write at least four passive voice sentences, and two active voice. Your focus in on what happened. Possible Verbs to use in passive: place, damage, tear off, demolish, blew, drop, destroy, threw Paragraph: After the tornado, everything was damaged. The house was damaged, the windows of the car were broken and the roof of the house was torn off because the tornado was so strong. Also, during the tornado, the car hit the house.

  6. Describe the scene Use simple present, present continuous and present perfect. Write four passive voice sentences, and two active voice sentences. Possible Verbs: plant, place, add, put, string, walk, enjoy, celebrate, cross, follow, flow, step Paragraph: The people are celebrating a community event. They are crossing the river, so the stones are being stepped on. The lanterns have been hung. The plants have been planted and a product has been advertised since it was put up.
