Sparkling Clean-Up at Home • With festive season just around the corner, new clothes will soon find place in (already full) closets and new make-up will be lovingly bought and stacked in vanity cases. • Come Diwali , the house will be filled with the heady fragrance of sweets drenched in ghee, the warm glow of silver lamps, and the happy chatter of guests. However, in all this prep and go, don’t forget to give your jewellery and metal antiques a makeover with these simple ingredients!

  3. Lemon and Salt Scrub Combine a couple tablespoons of lemon juice, grated lemon peel, and sea salt. This simple mixture works incredibly well to clean brass lamps, copper plates and pots and restores their former sparkling glory!

  4. Kokam Can Kokam, one of the most commonly found ingredients in a typical Indian kitchen, is a wonder cleaner. A few pieces of kokam soaked in salt water can be used to scrub away copper utensils. Immersing your silver ware in this water for 10-15 minutes also helps get rid of any debris that may be stuck between engravings and such.

  5. Liquid Soap Make a warm, soapy bath for your gold jewellery by combining mild liquid soap with warm water. Let your jewellery sit in this solution for 10-15 minutes. Use a toothbrush with soft bristles to gently brush away any dirt or dust that may be stuck in hard-to-reach crevices. This is a great way to keep all your festive as well as everyday jewellery as good as new!

  6. Flour bath If your lamps are oily, don’t worry about a messy clean-up. Just give them a heavy sprinkling of wheat flour and simply wipe it away. Voila! The oil will be gone in seconds. Follow up with a mild soap-water rinse and pat dry.

  7. No water clean-up Dousing gemstone jewellery with water and soap could loosen the glue, harming their finish in the long run. The best way to clean gemstone jewellery is by soaking a piece of soft cloth in a solution of liquid soap and water and using this to wipe the jewellery thoroughly. This festive season, give your jewellery a stunning makeover and let all your lamps sparkle like a string of stars, not quite different from the one around your neck!
