  4. Cycle Storage in Tenements “No storage facilities in flat, and would be unable to keep in the stair. Would love to have a bike!” • Survey: 86% said storage is problematic to some degree. • 32%: storage problems stopped them from cycling as much as they’d like.

Spokes CCF ProjectTackle residential bike storage to get more people cycling • Work with TPI consultants to research options • Produce practical information for residents on bike storage options • Use this to stimulate local action by individuals / groups • Lobby the Council for action, esp on-street pilots Project info on Spokes website – downloads – technical & research – tenements

  6. How will this project help? Spokes survey: • 92%: interest in practical information on possible solutions • 85%: would then discuss options with neighbours • 41%: would then look at buying equipment for own home. • 52%: would then lobby Councillors etc. for action

  8. Some Issues • Building control, esp for stairwell storage • Developing good relations with neighbours • Engaging landlords • Abandoned bikes • On-street storage – design, Streetscape,parking • Funding for communal storage improvements • New-build flats

Some Outcomes so Far • Substantial evidence base – (a) issues for residents (b) possible solutions to these. • Engagement of other organisations • Raising the profile of this issue – with residents and a range of relevant organisations. • Strong CEC interest in making practical improvements - ATAP

  10. On-Street Bike Storage “There really isn't space for cycle storage on the back green or in the stairwell, if there was we have used this solution before now. In my street we really need on street parking.” • CEC interest in running pilots • Options – racks, ‘bread bins’, lockers etc • Constraints – cost, Streetscape, residents’ views • Information needed to make a case
