  1. Missionaries By: Lane, Caleb, Micayla, Jessica

  2. Why did they come to WA? • They came to lead the Indians to Christianity. In other words that means they came to teach about God.

Who were some well-known Missionaries? • The Whitmans –sent to the Cayuse at Waiilatpu • The Spaldings – sent to Nez Perce at Lapwai • The Smiths – sent to Waiilatpu • The Grays – Spokane: Tshimakian and Kamiah • The Walkers - Spokane: Tshimakian and Kamiah • The Eells - Spokane: Tshimakian and Kamiah

  4. What did they wear, live in and eat? • Ate the crops that they grew • Hunted • Lived in sod houses • Wore pants and shirts

  5. Did any Missionaries die? • Yes some died in the Whitman Massacre when they were killed by the Indians. Here are some of the names of people who died. 1. Doctor Whitman 2. Mrs. Whitman 3.   6. How did they die? • The Whitmans went to go teach the Indians about God. But once they did the Indians attacked. A couple of the Indians went up behind Mr. Whitman and hit him with a hatchet. He wasn’t dead yet so they left him there to bleed to death.
