  1. Video Resources of Disability Services and Support Information for Chinese and Korean Communities Angela Shin, Cultural Caseworker Child Development Service North Waitemata District Health Board

Aim and Background • The aim of the video resource is to improve accessibility of health and disability services to children having a disability and their families in NZ • Backgrounds: • Useful booklets and brochures available in relation to the child disability service such as Disability Support Guide. • But, the CALD families do not have the same level of accessibility with the mainstream families. • Video resources in the internet can be easily accessible to the CALD families having children with disabilities.

Summary • This project is funded by Northern Regional Alliance • Partnership with The Korean Community Wellness Society (KCWS), Disability Connect and Ministry of Education • 7 (around 10 minutes each) video clips on selected topics of the disability services and supports in NZ (three versions of English, Chinese and Korean with subtitles)

Key topics Child Health and Disability Service (DHBs) & Ministry of Health • Diagnosis process • Child Development Services in DHBs • The Developmental Coordination Service (ASD Coordinators) • Equipment, house and vehicle modification • Total Mobility Scheme (Mobility parking permit)  • Needs Assessment and the role of the NASC

  6. Ministry of Social Development & Support Groups Key topics • Disability allowance, child disability allowance, supported living payment (WINZ) • Ministry for vulnerable children (Child Youth and Family Services) • Strengthening Families • Non government organisations (NGOs) and support groups

  7. Key topics Ministry of Education Special Education • Overview of education services and support for children with special needs • Early Intervention Services (EIT, SLT, Psychologist) • ORS funding and other resources • Choosing a school & partnership with the school
