  3. What is the goal of persuasive writing? • to state the writer’s opinion • to give reasons why the reader should agree • to convince the reader to take action Copying permitted

  4. What is a persuasive essay/letter? • meant for a specific audience • tries to convince the reader to do something Copying permitted

  5. What are the parts of a persuasive essay? • Beginning (or intro. paragraph) - use a hook, leading to a thesis statement containing your opinion and three reasons to back it up. • Middle (or 3 body paragraphs) – three paragraph to provide support and back up each of the reasons for your opinion • End ( or conclusion paragraph) – After acknowledging the opposite point of view, re-states thesis and tells the reader what action to take Copying permitted
