Overview of WP 5 / Tasks • WP5 organizes the educational activities for shaping the next generation of scientists and professionals in the field of serious games and serious virtual worlds. • Facilitate / enhance education IN serious gaming (design, technology, research, application, etc.) (NOT SG in Education!) • 5.1 Young academy (TUD) • 5.2 Alignment school (HWU) • 5.3 MSG in SG (HWU) • 5.4 PhD school on SG (Inesc-ID) • 5.5 Didactic books (UWS) • 5.6 Thematic events / summer school (TUT) • 5.7 Exchange programs for PhD, studs (TUD) • 5.8 Eur. Priority planning 2010-2011 • T5.2: 1st Alignment meeting in Edinburgh (UWS): completed in July 2010, 2nd AS in Lisbon now planned. • T5.1: Establishing a foundation for the Young Academy (TU- Delft): completed in July 2010, ongoing • T5.5: Outlines of the didactic books, contact with publisher, editorial board and start of one book (HWU): completed October 2011 and on-going • T5.4/5.6/5.7: Outlines, plan and set up thematic / summer / PhD school (TUT, Inesc ID): started in 2011 • T5.9: Communication for exchange of young researchers (Covuni / TU-Delft): starts in 2012 • T5.8: A plan for SG Award(s) (UPS): starts in 2012 • T5.3: Exploration and plan of SG Msc / PhD program (HWU / Inesc-ID): starts in 2012

T 5.1 Young Academy (DUT) Objectives • T5.1 organizes a GALA ‘Young Academy’ with an educational/scientific advisory board, and a website for the promotion of SG education, internships and stages, exchange programs, PhD programs (T5.2 – 5.8). • The Academy will co-ordinate and supervise the quality of the various educational and research activities in WP5, aligning with (existing) local and regional initiatives for Serious Game education. The academy has a long-term perspective as the educational branch of the European Society on Serious Games. T5.2 Alignment School (UWS) Objectives • T5.1 organizes a GALA ‘Young Academy’ with an educational/scientific advisory board, and a website for the promotion of SG education, internships and stages, exchange programs, PhD programs (T5.2 – 5.8). • The Academy will co-ordinate and supervise the quality of the various educational and research activities in WP5, aligning with (existing) local and regional initiatives for Serious Game education.   10. T5.3 Master in SG (HWU) Objectives • Task 5.3 will be in charge of the definition of a framework and the syllabus of a M.Sc. Course on Serious Gaming. The proposed framework will be flexible in terms of program implementation. Actions • Initial actions taken: survey / 1st AS • UU – Master in Game Design / Master in Game studies • SGI – Master in Serious Gaming • DUT – Master specialisation Modelling, Simulation & Gaming Activities • The work plan over the course of next year involves quantify student demand, curriculum requirements regarding the context and content for SG courses, industry needs and programme implementation accessibility

T5.5 Didactic books (UWS) Objectives • T5.5 aims at writing and publishing eight high-quality scientific and didactic books covering all the fundamental topics relevant to the SG teaching and research. This task will be in close synergy with T5.3 and T5.4, since these books will cover the requirements of a new M.Sc. course in SG and will represent the fundamental didactic subside for students. Books will include also code and/or other support multimedia material. The first books will be issued on M21, for the beginning of the M.Sc. courses, with yearly revisions. Based upon the curriculum this task will concentrate on developing suitable training material. The training material will be made available at the portal.
