  1. Range • Top mounted agitators ………………………….Type : ALT • Top mounted agitators with Bottom Support…Type : ALTB • Bottom mounted agitators………………………Type : ALB • Side mounted agitators………………………….Type : ALS ALT ALTB ALB ALS

  2. Duties • Maintain homogeneousmedia • Mixing • Solutions (dissolve) • Solids Dispersion • Suspension • Heat Transmission • Dairy Fermentation Often an application is a mix of the mentioned duties

  3. Mixing Agitation Intensity • High to Very High Typical Application • Fluid + fluid mixing, i.e.: Drinking yoghurt and fruit mix tanks flavored milk mix tanks, syrup mix tanks, etc.

  4. Agitator Build The agitator consist of the following elements • Drive unit with bearing frame (shaft support) • Lantern (spacer) • Shaft seal arrangement • Shaft • Propellers • Welding flange (not shown)

  5. << BACK EnSaFoil Propellers • Surface Finish • Polished (standard Ra<0,8µm) • Electro polished (standard Ra<0,8µm) • Shot peened • Diameter • 125mm to 1900mm • Mounting on Shaft • Threaded shaft and propeller hub with open seal O-ring (standard for type ALT with one propeller, ALS, ALB) • Bored propeller hub with set screws countersunk into shaft (standard for type ALT with more than one propeller and ALTB) • Propeller prepared for welding onto the shaft

  6. Low level impeller (LLI) • Low level agitation • Stirring during emptying • Expensive products

  7. << BACK Bottom Support Bottom steady bearing with PTFE bushing, bushing with helical grooves for effective cleaning and lubrication Surface Finish • Polished (standard Ra<0,8µm) • Shot peened Sanitary bottom steady bearing with PVDF bushings. The most sanitary bottom steady bearing. Surface Finish • Polished (Standard Ra<0,8µm) Type : BS1 Type : BS2

  8. EnSaFerm

  9. Modular design The Alfa Laval range of propeller agitators • is designed to meet almost every customer requirement and applications. • to be tailored to product composition and the geometry of the tank. The modular construction is designed with the aim to meet both European and American standards and regulations for the sanitary industry, such as EHEDG, USDA, FDA, 3A etc.

  10. Modular Design • All agitators are built using the same basic modules in various sizes • All elements in the modular construction are designed with the aim to meet both European and American standards and regulations, such as EHEDG, USDA, FDA, 3A etc. • High level of flexibility i.e. easy change of design on existing agitators e.g. shaft seal

  11. Modular design Alfa Laval agitators are equipped with Energy Saving Foil (EnSaFoil or EnSaFerm) with low energy consumption. With a diameter of 125 mm to 1900 mm depending on the configuration, these impeller achieve • gentle agitation • a high flow rate • with minimal energy input from the drive unit.

  12. Low energy consumption Compared EnSaFoil with pitch blade impeller, their efficiency is 400% better – which means lower operating costs. • less shear stress and shear rate in the product • lessfriction = less heat • less power input energy to the system • less temperature increase

  13. Low energy consumption 6000 m3 Sun flower Oil tank Tank Diameter : 22 mHeight : 18 m Keep media homogeneous • 3 Agitators type ALS at 1,5 kW

  14. Easy cleaning Outside the tank • All joints installed with outer seal-o-rings • Bearing frame and lantern in stainless • steel with smooth surfaces • Easy to clean Approx 1 m

  15. Easy cleaning Inside the tank • No surfaces where the media can accumulate • No interior shadow sides between the blades and smooth surfaces. • No interior shadow sides • Internal connections with outer seal o-ring • Detachable shaft with or without a flange coupling inside the tank • Smooth surfaces • Easy to clean Approx 0,7-0,5 m

  16. Easy cleaning • By using Alfa Laval Tank CleaningEquipment formation of ”Splash • back effect ” thatcleanshadowareas • Always run the agitator during CIP • Allow the CIP liquid to wet the seal • for ALS and ALB • CIP immediatelyafteremptying the tank !

  17. Sealing

  18. Bearing frame Motor shaft Cloe Coupling • Ball bearing • Shaft drive • Screw • Ball bearing • Radial seal Agitator shaft

  19. Simple maintenance All service on Alfa Laval agitators can be performed from the tank exterior. Low maintenance costs due to • a very long seal service life • greater productivity because of reduced downtime. This includes the replacement of wear parts, such as shaft seals and bearings, And thanks to a removable shaft that can be detached without entering the tank.

  20. Installation • Top mounted • Off set recommended =Øtank* 1/6 to 1/4 Clearancemin = Øimpeller * 1/2 • smax is from top of welding flange • Y-dim = s + clearancemin • wmin = s * 1/15

  21. Installation • Side mounted in angle 20° according to horizontal and E=5-7° or • E=C x tan (5-7°) off centre • Distance from propeller tip to tank bottom minimum 100 mm. • Minimum agitation levelabove the propeller = Dpropeller x 0,5
