Cooktown Expo 2020 • The Cooktown Expo 2020 will be a bi-annual event built on the theme “A Shared History” with the following objectives: • Build relationships and capacity in the region • Showcase economic development initiatives and business innovation, with a strong Indigenous focus • Celebrate and promote Cooktown’s unique heritage highlighting Cooktown as a model for reconciliation • Create an opportunity to share innovation, promote progress and foster cooperation and showcase our unique arts and culture • Build a sustainable future for the region • Inspire, challenge and educate
Cooktown Expo 2020 • The Expo will be delivered over 3 weeks in July 2020* • 3 Key Weekends • July 11 – 12:Reconciliation Rocks Music Festival • July 17 – 19:Discovery Festival • July 24 – 26: Endeavour Festival • *The dates and program themes are preliminary only and subject to change.
Cooktown Expo 2020 • Council has formed the Cooktown Expo 2020 Consortium. Members include: • Cook Shire Council • WujalWujal Aboriginal Shire Council • Hope Vale Aboriginal Shire Council • Gungarde Aboriginal Corporation • James Cook University • The National Trust of Australia (Queensland) • TCICA (Torres and Cape Indigenous Council’s Alliance)

Cooktown Expo 2020 • The objective of the Consortium and our partners is to work together collaboratively to develop the program and stage the Expo. • We are jointly committed to creating a lasting legacy for the Cape York and Torres Strait region.
Cooktown Expo 2020 • Our vision for the reimagined Expo includes an ideas exchange, forums, discussions, conferences, showcasing: • Regional arts, culture, sport and heritage • Economic development and business innovation • Marine (GBR), agricultural and environmental sustainability • Indigenous culture and education • Tourism – cultural, adventure, eco tourism
Cooktown Expo 2020 • We are very much outcomes focused in our approach to planning and our mantra is about creating a lasting legacy for the region. • Bi-annual event which will create a forum to educate, share innovation, promote progress and foster co-operation. • Create new job and business opportunities • Foster regional collaboration and innovation • Provide an opportunity to build a return on investment for the State through long term employment and investment which will build our economic self sufficiency.
