  1. Good Morning! • Please have the following on your desk • Math Binder • INB • Pencil • White board • Whiteboard marker • Math homework & log • Complete warm up 3-2 • Complete vocabulary page • Set up your INB

  2. 3-3 Least Common Multiple (LCM) Objective: I can find the least common multiple of two or more whole numbers. Now set up the left side of the page & complete: • Page number: • Lesson title: Least Common Multiple • Learning goal: (write the objective in your own words) • What I know: (Write 1 or 2 sentences explaining what you already know about the lesson)

  3. California Standards Preparation for NS2.4 Determine the least common multiple and the greatest common divisor of whole numbers; use them to solve problems with fractions (e.g. to find a common denominator to add two fractions or to find the reduced form for a fraction).

  4. Why learn this? Drivers can use the least common multiple to determine when they need to service their vehicle.

  5. Vocabulary Multiple Least common multiple (LCM) divisible

  6. A multiple of a number is the product of that number and a nonzero whole number. EX. 2: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 Just count by the number given! The least common multiple of two or more numbers is the SMALLEST multiple in common!

  7. Tape edge down to flip up vocab card

  8. Additional Example 1: Using a List to Find the LCM Find the least common multiple (LCM). SLIDE METHOD!!!! A. 2, 7 B. 3, 6, 9

  9. Check It Out! Example 1 Find the least common multiple (LCM). SLIDE METHOD! A. 3, 7 B. 2, 6, 4

  10. Additional Example 2B: Using Prime Factorization to Find the LCM Find the least common multiple (LCM). SLIDE METHOD! 14, 35, 49

  11. YOUR TURN!Example 2A Find the least common multiple (LCM). SLIDE METHOD! 24, 36, 48

  12. Additional Example 2B: Using Prime Factorization to Find the LCM Find the least common multiple (LCM). SLIDE METHOD! 12, 15, 22

  13. YOUR TURN!Example 2A Find the least common multiple (LCM). SLIDE METHOD! 8, 12, 18, 25

  14. Check It Out! Example 3 Two satellites are put into orbit over the same location at the same time. One orbits the earth every 24 hours, while the second completes an orbit every 18 hours. How much time will elapse before they are once again over the same location at the same time?

  15. YOUR TURN Find the least common multiple (LCM). 1. 18, 21 2. 4, 6, 15 3. You are planning a picnic. You can purchase paper plates in packages of 30, paper napkins in packages of 50, and paper cups in packages of 20. What is the least number of each type of package that you can buy and have an equal number of each?

  16. Common Core Activity TELEPHONE! • Your partner is sitting next to you. Choose who is A and who is B. • The A student needs to go outside, you are the learner. The B student stays inside, you are the teacher! • I will give the “teacher” a problem to teach the “learner.” • The “learner” will return and the teacher will teach! • The “learner” needs to check the “teachers” work!

  17. Left side time! • What I learned: write 1-2 sentences about what you learned. Proof: Using the slide method, find the LCM of 2, 3, 4, 5 • Reflection: Write about it. What is the difference between the slide method used for GCD and LCM?
