  1. 7th Grade Reading/Language Arts • Goals: • TLW relate how the credibility of resources affects the real world. • Objectives: • TLW analyze and differentiate between reliable and unreliable sources. • Pre-assessment: • Give them a source, they tell whether it is credible or not (Anticipation Guide Agree or Disagree) • Real-life: • We are using examples (magazines, internet, books, newspapers, eyewitness accounts, gossip, etc.)

  2. Learning Styles Auditory: Listening to eyewitness account Kinesthetic/Tactile: Researching sources (books and internet), Role play Visual: Looking at sources

  3. Group Instructional Activities Topic in Groups of 4 Choose 3 reliable sources and 1 unreliable Give example of each and tell why they are credible or not As a group, choose one they want to present on The teacher would choose the groups staggering the ability levels of the students. Group Member Roles: Recorder, Summarizer, Presenter, Researcher

  4. Tiered Assignment and Assessment Tier 1 (Advanced): Find one eyewitness account, one newspaper article, one internet resource, and any other primary resource over the SAME historical event. Essay: Comparing and Contrasting including explanation of why it is or is not reliable Tier 2 (Proficient): Find one eyewitness account, one newspaper article, one internet resource, and any other primary resource over the SAME historical event. Make Visual Tier 3 (Basic):Provide one eyewitness account, one newspaper article, one internet resource, and any other primary resource over the SAME historical event. Graphic Organizer Tier 4 (Below Basic):Provide one eyewitness account, one newspaper article, one internet resource, and any other primary resource over the SAME historical event. Categorize reliable or unreliable (verbally explain why)

  5. Re-teaching • Review the material and show new examples • Assign a higher or lower tier based • Assessment: • Reviewing anticipation guide and reflecting on what they have completed • Closure: • Journal Reflection on what they have completed

  6. 8th Grade Math • Goals: • TLW be able to multiply and divide using exponents. • Objectives: • TLW solve real-world problems using scientific notation and exponents. • Pre-assessment: • Pre-test quiz with problems to solve to assess what they already know • Real-World: • Measuring long distances (hiking across the Appalachian Trial)

  7. Learning Styles Auditory/ Visual : BrainPop Video Kinesthetic/Tactile: Solving problems on the board; Planning their trip

  8. Group Instructional Activities: • Paired Groups (Higher and Lower Learners together) • Using the Appalachian Trail as an example • Calculate distance; Write in Scientific Notation; Calculate time it would take them using Distance= Rate X time equation; Give them a time limit to complete hike= Divide using exponents

  9. Differentiated Instruction Activities: • Tier 1(Advanced): Plan their own trip. Calculate distance; Write in Scientific Notation; Calculate time it would take them using Distance= Rate X time equation; Give them a time limit to complete hike= Divide using exponents. Write an explanation describing why we add and subtract exponents. • Tier 2 (Proficient): Plan their own trip. Calculate distance; Write in Scientific Notation; Calculate time it would take them using Distance= Rate X time equation; Give them a time limit to complete hike= Divide using exponents • Tier 3 (Basic): Assign their own tripwith distances. Allow them to solve the problems. • Tier 4 (Below Basic): Assign their trip and problems… they tell whether they add or subtract the exponents.

  10. Strategies of re-teaching • BrainPop Video • Internet tutorials/Math Games • Assessment Strategies • Post-test= Same as pre-test. Collect data on progress from before the lesson to after. • Closure • Ticket out the Door: Problem on the board, answer, hand it to teacher on the way out
