Ch. 11 Section 3 part 1 • Activity: Paraphrase the two John O’ Sullivan quotations below in modern English. “we are the nation of human progress, and who will, what can, set limits to our onward march?” AND “Manifest destiny to overspread and to posses the whole continent which Providence[God] has given us for the development of the great experiment of liberty…”

Now • Discuss the idea of Manifest Destiny, consider the various reasons that Americans supported or opposed the idea. • Last: Create a political cartoon or drawing the captures the idea of manifest destiny in the U.S. in the 1840’s.
