  4. Conversation

  6. A=oral B=listening C=reading

(Gist-Content) What do the speakers mainly discuss? What is the main topic of the lecture? (Gist-Purpose) Why does the student visit the professor?

  12. TPO 8-1-1 • Stu: Hi, I’d like to drop off my graduation form. I understand you need this in order to process my diploma. • Registrar: OK, I’ll take that. Before you leave, let me check our computer. Looks like you are OK forgraduation, and um… actually, I’m getting a warning flag on your academic record here.

  13. Why does the man go to see the registrar? A To find out why he is not on the list of graduating students B To explain why he has not fulfilled his graduation requirements C To find out the exact requirements for graduation D To submit a document required for graduation

  15. Part of the limestone rock layer is permeated by water from below. Those curly lines are supposed to be cracks in the rock. Below the water table and rock is oil. Bacteria feed on this oil and release hydrogen sulfide gas. This gas is hydrogen sulfide, rises up and mixes with oxygen in the underground water that sits in the cracks and fissures in the limestone. And when hydrogen sulfide reacts with the oxygen in the water, the result of that is sulfuric acid, Ok? Sulfuric acid eats away at limestone very aggressively. So you get bigger cracks and then passageway is being formed along the openings in the rock and it’s all underground.

  17. TPO 18- L3 The role of spices Now, this is a good point to mention one of the biggest myths about spices. It’s commonly said that medieval Europeans wanted spices to cover up the taste of spoiled meat. But this isn’t really true. Anyone who had to worry about spoiled meat couldn’t afford spices in the first place. If you could afford spices, you could definitely afford fresh meat. We also have evidence that various medieval markets employed a kind of police to make sure that people did not sell spoiled food, and if you were caught doing it, you were subject to various fines, humiliating public punishments. So what actually true was this: In order to have meat for the winter, people would preserve it in salt, not a spice. Spices actually aren’t very effective as preservatives.

  18. What two factors explain why medieval Europeans did not use spices to cover the taste of spoiled meat?Click on 2 answers A Fresh meat was less expensive than spices were B Spices were mainly used in incense and perfume C The sale of spoiled food was prohibited D Salt was cheaper than most spices were

  19. Spice 坏meat ① $ spi > meat ② sale meat X They were unaffordable for many people.

  22. Organization(观点组织题)

  23. 观点组织题-单选题 题干形式 : Why does the professor mention/discuss X ?

  26. 符号: > (more than, surpass, exceed) , ≠(difference) ∴ (so, therefore, consequently) ∈(belong to) eg (for example, like, such as) ↑(increase, grow, improve, enhance advance…) ↓(decline, decrease, reduce, drop, fall…) • 缩写: gov (government) co/cor (company, corporation) edu (education) info (information) grad(graduate)
