  1. What was life like for Aboriginal before the arrival of Europeans?

  2. Clothing • Aboriginal people wore less clothing and painted their bodies in the hot climate. • In cold climate aboriginal people wore more clothing such as possum skin cloaks to keep warm.

  3. Hunting • This is a coastal person, they catch fish and sea creatures • Only men are allowed to hunt • Fishing spears often had multiple prongs with barbs

  4. Hunting Spears and boomerangs were both used to hunt kangaroo and emu.

  5. Weapons Desert people would use stone tools and wooden tools. Coastal tribes would often make their tools and weapons out of fish bones. For example

  6. Women’s gathering Women gathered insects, berries and flowers. When the men went out hunting. Woman needed intelligence and concentration also needed to know more the the men.

  7. family The elders teach important traditions and pass on their skills and knowledge. They pass on things like how to cook their food write and how to hunt properly.

  8. boomerangs There are basically 3 types of boomerangs that are made and used by aboriginal people across Australia. Hunting Boomerang, Returning boomerang and Cross boomerang

  9. Hunting boomerangs This is a long boomerang about t2 and a half feet long and about four to seven pounds. the hunting boomerang is not built to return to the thrower. Its main purse is to kill prey such as kangaroo, emu and possums.

  10. Returning boomerang This boomerang is designed to return to the thrower. The returning boomerang was not primarily designed for hunting as it is too light and wouldn't guarantee a kill.

  11. Cross boomerang Shaped like a cross. Two flat wooden pieces tied together with lawyer cane. This type was only made and used by our people in the rainforest areas of Northern Queensland.
