  2. SUMMARY • Freighters yesterday and today • Why do we think freighters have a place in the air cargo industry’s recovery in 2010? • Why do we think Cargoitalia will succeed and grow? • The Challenges ahead • Conclusion – Cargoitalia’s view on the future

  3. FREIGHTERS YESTERDAY & TODAY Ex Military Freighters Freighters in major airlines Specialist Scheduled Pax Carriers Regional All-Cargo Airlines Conversions and Freighters boom 1940 1960 1970 1990 2000 Today Berlin’s Airlift Wide body Passanger Aircrafts and first “rate war”

  4. WHY DO WE THINK FREIGHTERS HAVE A PLACE IN THE AIR CARGO INDUSTRY’S RECOVERY IN 2010? • Scheduled pure freighters will continue to find demand on long, “thick” routes, where scheduled pax operations provide too little capacity • Cargo aircraft only shipments, large shipments etc • Possible under-capacity on some routes as economy recovers • Stricter Security on Passengers Aircrafts • Scarcity: less freighters in operation today than in 2007

  5. WHY DO WE THINK Cargoitalia WILL SUCCEED AND GROW ITALIAN MARKET OVERVIEW • 3rd market in Europe for import and export • Peculiarity of Italian commodities drives demand for air cargo • Still a great proportion of Italian air cargo is trucked abroad • The Alps provide a natural physical barrier between Italy and the rest of Europe • Italian dedicated Freighters fleet disappeared in 2008

  6. Air Uplift vs. Road Source: SEA –Italian Airport Association 2007 WHY DO WE THINK Cargoitalia WILL SUCCEED AND GROW ITALIAN MARKET OVERVIEW

  7. WHY DO WE THINK Cargoitalia WILL SUCCEED AND GROW Our Strengths • Cargoitalia is a truly Italian airline • Very lean and low cost business approach • Quality and flexibility as drivers • Cargoitalia is a young and passionate team • Strong shareholder’s commitment to invest

  8. CHALLANGES AHEAD OF US • Market Recovery……will 2010 bring any good news? • Rates and Yield: when will we go back to a sustainable level? • Demand vs. Capacity • Fuel costs and strong Euro

  13. CONCLUSIONS At Cargoitalia we think: • The market is recovering, even though at a low pace. A very prudent approach to market expansion is a must • Rate will increase but margin will be the challenge: fuel efficiency is vital and tight cost management is vital. • The freighters in pax carriers’ fleets will progressively disappear leaving the scene to few specialised, flexible and high-quality operators
