  2. Background • Action Plan developed by national working group of senior officials. • Long-term approach to close the gap. • Informed by a two stage consultation process. • Endorsed by education ministers in April 2010. • Being ratified by COAG.

Close the Gap Overview of the Action Plan national indigenous reforms national smarter schools literacy and numeracy commitments teacher quality national education agreement low socio-economic status school communities youth attainment and transitions remote service delivery key reforms achievement for all students indigenous early childhood development targets early childhood education

  4. Overview of the Action Plan • Contains 55 actions at national, state and local levels. • Outlines outcomes, targets, performance indicators . • Covers full spectrum from early childhood, schooling and training. • Involves government and non-government providers.

  5. Six priority domains • Readiness for school • Engagement and connections • Attendance • Literacy and numeracy • Leadership, quality teaching and workforce development • Pathways to real post-school options
