  2. Basic Information Steam sterilization is the removal of air trapped or leaked into the sterilization chamber. To measure the success of steam sterilization and the chamber contamination, Bowie Dick test is performed. It is usually performed before the pre-vacuum cycle or after the conditioning phase. In other words, the standard operational test conducted by hospitals and laboratories to demonstrate proper air removal from their pre-vacuum autoclave chamber is called a Bowie Dick test.
