  1. Project: IEEE P802.15 Working Group for Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) Submission Title: [Application and System Requirement of mmW Personal Area Network] Date Submitted: [May 12, 2004] Source: [Yozo Shoji and Hiroyo Ogawa] Company [National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Incorporated Administrative Agency] Address [3-4, Hikarino-Oka, Yokosuka, Kanagawa, 234-0051, Japan] Voice:[+81.46.847.5075], FAX: [+81.46.847.5079], E-Mail:[shoji@nict.go.jp ] Abstract: [Description of application and System Requirement of millimeter-wave personal area network systems.] Purpose: [Contribution to SG3c at May 2004 meeting] Notice: This document has been prepared to assist the IEEE P802.15. 2. Application and System Requirement of mmW Personal Area Network Yozo Shoji, CRL

  3. Application & System requirement (1) • ad-hoc connections among peripheral devices • Homegateway & PC • Camcorder &DVD or Monitor • DVD & Monitor Yozo Shoji, CRL

  4. Application & System requirement (2) • In a meeting room: ad-hoc connections among PCs - Meeting attendees can share presenter’s material on their PCs - Slide data can be transmitted to projector Utilization example in a meeting room ※(1280×1024)pixel×16(bit)×50Hz(flame frequency)=1.05 Gbps Yozo Shoji, CRL

  5. Application & System requirement (3) • In a house: ad-hoc connections among household equipments • transmission of audio and visual signals • wireless internet access • control of equipments Utilization example in a house Yozo Shoji, CRL

  6. Application & System requirement (4) • In an exhibition hall, info-station, bus, train, or etc. : information distribution or contents vending for ad-hoc mobile terminals - Installing an access point terminal (APT) that works as an ad-hoc wireless repeater and several small spot-areas are connected through the APTs - Multi-hop connections to overcome the drawback characterized by short distance link limitation in mmW communications Yozo Shoji, CRL

  7. Application & System requirement (4 cont’) Yozo Shoji, CRL

  8. mmW PAN in Stadium(4 cont’) - Uncompressed HD camera video data can be transmitted over mmW P-P link to Video Switching Room - Installing an access point terminal (APT) that works as both an ad-hoc mmW repeater and a signal adder/dropper Yozo Shoji, CRL

  9. Application & System requirement (5) • At apartments, condominiums: mmW PAN for on-demand transmission or/andre-broadcasting of video and datasignal for ad-hoc terminals - Transmission of Sub-carrier video and DATA channels over mmW - Multi-hop or through-repeater connections overcome the LoS problem in mmW link and can seamlessly distribute video signals into room Yozo Shoji, CRL

  10. Application & System requirement (5 cont’) Yozo Shoji, CRL

  11. Proposal of Frequency Channel Plan for mmW PAN • Subcarrier transmission over mmW should be in consideration • Combination of Broadcasting channels and communications channels • Support of Data channel using Multicast or Broadcast MAC protocol Yozo Shoji, CRL

  12. Summary • Ad-hoc connections among peripheral devices • (~480Mbps & ~10m) • Ad-hoc connections among PCs in a meeting room • (~1Gbps & ~10m) • Ad-hoc connections among household equipments in a house • (~500Mbps & ~10m) • Information distribution or contents vending for ad-hoc terminals at an info-station, etc. • (~2.3 Gbps & ~3m) • Apartment complex mmW PAN for on-demand transmission or/and Re-broadcasting of Video and Data signal at condominiums • (Ex.... 30MHz x 100 channels & ~10m) Yozo Shoji, CRL
