  3. History In the year 100 AD, the Romans used glass to magnify objects In 1250, Roger Bacon invented the magnifying glass In the 1400’s, the first glasses were made In 1590, the Dutch made the first microscope In 1609, Galileo improved the microscope

  4. Linear Magnification Used for real images projected on a screen For example, an overhead or projector Usually measured in millimeters or inches

  5. Angular Magnification Used for optical instruments with an eyepiece For example, binoculars, telescope, microscope, glasses, and a magnifying glass
