  2. Standard Operating Procedure Manual

  3. Why do schools need a standard operating procedure manual?

  4. Why an SOP • High performing schools thrive on consistency and perform much better when things are done regularly and efficiently. • Well-written SOPs facilitate training/cross-training. Having complete step-by-step instructions helps teachers and staff ensure that nothing is missed and provides a reference resource for everyone. • They provide a common understanding for what needs to be done and shared expectations for how tasks are completed.

  5. Why an SOP • Administrators/Teachers can coach and support each other if there is documentation available on exactly how various tasks must be done and everyone knows what their co-workers are supposed to be doing. • This can also help generate a more cooperative team approach to getting all the daily tasks done correctly, every day. • Having SOPs can encourage regular evaluation of work activity and continuous improvement in how things are done.

  6. What is a process? What is a system?

  7. A process is a series of ordered activities that produce an end result.

  8. A system is a set of readily understood, integrated, adaptable activities that produce ongoing, consistent results.

  9. The job of a school leader is arguably one of the most interrupted jobs anywhere. You are continually bombarded by students, parents, staff, and the mini-crises that occur each day. Because of this, a school leader can invest a tremendous number of hours –and heart and soul –into the work of school without even stepping foot into a classroom. -Bambrick-Santoyo, p. 240
