  1. From Up Above I Watched You Poem by Jordon Domoslai Presentation by Amber Keen

  2. Summery This poem was written by Jordon Domoslai, an 8th grader at RVVS. It was written a number of years ago for a friend of hers who was dying. This poem was a way to express inner feeling about Jordon’s friend. I think the bits that say “From up above I watched you” are to signify Jordon’s feelings of helplessness over the fate of her friend.

  3. Critique In all the stanzas it talks about dancing. I think this is very effective in the poem because it just makes life seem more graceful and beautiful, and more of a loss when it’s gone. It talks about how the dance is growing slower and finally stopping. I think this works wonderfully sort of as a ‘unit’ to measure life in.

  4. I think that the parts that talk about the speaker being on a cloud are used to symbolize that the ordeal was experienced from a distance. I don’t doubt that Jordon was very close to her friend, but you know when something bad happens and you can’t really believe it’s happening to you? I think this could be effective in describing that feeling.

  5. I loved this poem pieces. You can feel the love and sadness in it. I enjoy writing poetry sometimes because I feel that you can express your feelings to the world in such ways that they may not understand fully what you’re saying, and that way you don’t feel so bare. I like this poem because it’s very easy to understand what’s going on and to relate your feelings to those in the poem. Jordon did an awesome job writing the poem and expressing her feelings. I know her friend would have been proud.

  6. Questions • What would be some reasons that the writer (Jordon) would write a poem like this? • In the stanza’s is talks about fate. “As I knew what fate did hold.” “As I knew fate, it neared.” etc. What fate was Jordon talking about? • What are some of the reasons that Jordon would talk about watching all this happen from a cloud?

  7. When it talks about the subject of the poem dancing, do you think it’s meaning is literal? Was the subject dancing, or is it a metaphor? • Assuming that ‘dancing’ is a metaphor, what does dancing really mean? What would the subject really be doing?

  8. The poem for this assignment is in the form of a mini-movie. It can be found posted on the LA9 discussion board. Please go view it when you have time. 
