  1. DO NOW: Read to yourself & copy HW Hey kids, I hope you have been doing okay in keeping up with your classwork. I will be off for at least 2 more weeks, my broken nose is healing slowly but surely (thank goodness for Mitosis). I appreciate your patience with all this and mostly your willingness to continue to work hard! (Miss you very much) A preview for the rest of the week: Wed- Finish “Crude” Th/Fri- Webquest with partner on “Race” Answer in complete sentences. HW: Due Thursday/Friday: Listen to the 1 hour podcast “Race” on Radiolab and answer the following questions. Turned in and graded: Link on ESAT page and Fb Page http://www.radiolab.org/2008/dec/15/ What did Francis Collin and Craig Benner prove about Race? What did JadAbumrad discover about his ancestry when he did the DNA test? What was the Eugenics movement? What did Wayne Joseph discover about his DNA race test? Would he have made different choices if he knew the information about his “race”? What do the students at the Facing History school discover about their perception of “race”? In your opinion, why do you think that we use the word “race” to categorize one another when there is no biological existence of it?

Environmental Connections to Current Events • Take out a sheet of paper and write your ESAT heading (name, period, date). • Title your paper “Environmental Connections 9/9/13 or 9/10/13” • Watch CNN student News, http://www.cnn.com/studentnews/ • Give 3 examples of environmental science connections using at least 1 key term. (Please collect) • This will be assessed for a grade. • Write in full sentences. • Must use at least one key term (use more if you can).

Toxicity Cornell Notes • Create Cornell Notes with ESAT heading and title. • You will be reading parts of Chapter 14 on the textbook and answering the 15 questions given to you (on the next slide). • You will be responsible for the material read and will be tested accordingly. • Words in red font are key terms and you must create flashcards for. TOXICANTS MAY ACCUMULATE AND MOVE UP THE FOOD CHAIN(p.395) • What happens to chemicals that can dissolve in oil or fats? • What is bioaccumulation? • How do toxins move up the food chain? • What is biomagnification? • What are some examples of organisms that were affected by the biomagnification of DDT?
