  1. PORTFOLIO DAY! Read the directions below very carefully. If you have questions/comments, please wait to ask me: • First, go find your portfolio. Take out ONLY the manila (or beige) portfolio; leave the green folder in the file cabinet. • Take out any old work from last semester from the manila folder. Put all OLD work in the green folder. • Take the manila folder to your desk. • Put your assignments from this semester in order by the period (first period goes on top, third period goes underneath, fourth period next, etc.) • IF you have your Nectar in a Sieve D.J.’s OR Poetry packet, put that on top of all other portfolio assignments (if not, don’t worry about it– you won’t lose points today). • When done, close your portfolio and pass it up to the front of the row.

  2. REMINDERS • Late portfolios: I’ll give full points until 3:20 today • If you need an honors recommendation, please drop it off on my desk tomorrow at the beginning of class. (Get them back to counseling a.s.a.p.) • Homework tonight: • Complete your sample Works Cited page– due tomorrow.(Use the sample Works Cited page AND the MLA instructions to help you do this. You only need to have TWO entries (sources) on your sample Works Cited page– Ms. Pierce just wants to see that you can do it. (Questions? Text/call Ms. Pierce tonight.) • Read to the end of Chapter Twenty-six. • Complete Status Quo Character Analysis (due tomorrow)

  3. STANDARDS Reading 3.8: Interpret and evaluate the impact of ambiguities [and] ironies in a text

  4. ENGLISH IIMARCH 14th Turn to your Study Questions for Chapters 22-24. *We will review selected questions.

  6. ANALYSIS • Get out your novel guide and let’s complete our Chapter Twenty-four analysis.

  7. IRONY • The Missionary Circle ladies are ironic & hypocritical. They seem to be civilized, ethical women, but… • They seem to feel sympathy for those whose live “uncivilized” lives—such as the Mrunas. Yet, what “uncivilized” group in their own community do they complain about and feel anger/frustration towards?

  8. IRONY • Group ethics effect these women; what are they expected to do? What are they expected to NOT do? • Who is the author suggesting is REALLY “uncivilized” and why? • Since these ladies live so strongly impacted by group ethics, or peer pressure, who can they can be compared to?

  9. TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD • Let’s continue reading Chapter Twenty-five of To Kill a Mockingbird. • Homework: Read to the end of Chapter Twenty-six.
