classroom, parents of 5Mc!

  2. The importance of our Mission and Vision "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their 
dreams." - Eleanor Roosevelt Mission: Park Street School is dedicated to igniting children's passions and helping them overcome their 
challenges. Therefore Park Street Staff will demonstrate an 
extraordinary commitment to educating the whole child 
through the use of best educational practices, in a world 
class learning environment. Vision: Preparing children to achieve their dreams and become model citizens in a global culture. Students will 
learn the way the world works and how to improve it.

  3. Subjects Literacy: Mme McInnis (90 mins-everyday) Math: Mme McInnis (90 mins-everyday) English: Mme. Cahill (60 mins-3xweek) Science/Social Studies/Health*: 30-60mins (4xweek) Art*: Integrated into other subjects. Music: Mr. Zaat (60 mins-2xweek) Phys.Ed.:Ms. McAuley, Mrs. Stewart (30mins-3xweek)

  4. Literacy-on a typicalday Oral-we chat! How wasyour night? Whatdidyou do? Ortho-wordwork, different format, not as muchtesting. Writing-Journal-prompts are conversation starters… Reading-as a group. For now, I read and thenwehear the audio version. So, we are supposed to behearing the texttwice. Activity-thataccompaniesourreading. Listening-Read aloud. I readthem a story (modelling). However, I givethemreasons for listening. Quick questions-who? what?when? where? Or comprehension questions etc. Please note thateverymorningfrom 8:10-8:25am students come in and read in French or Journal.

Respect studying short biographies Reading: develop strategies using predictions, connections Writing: understand the structure and a biography, organization, adding personal tone Publicity studying publicities and commercials Reading: determine what is important, getting the message Writing: Word choice Continuouslyworking on language and cursive.

  7. Mathon a typicalday • Warm-up- item bank question. (drawing, equation, answer, sentence***) (follow provincial exam format of Knowledge, Communication, Problem Solving to correct) • Review…go over terms and problems. • New lesson (elaboration on new concept). • Work on new concept (individual/group/partner-I circulate) • Correct-review • Math journal. • Please note: • Startingsoon-daily minute math. • Test/quizzesevery Friday (formative and summativeassessment)

  8. Mathematics Outcomes for thisreportingperiod. Regularities and simple equations Natural numbers (estimating, representing) Starting multiplication and division (exploring different 
strategies, mental math etc.) Carry-over methods/at home methods.

  9. Homework • Homeworkwillbepostedeveryday on myteacher page. • Usualhomeworkincludes: • IXL Math (1 hour per week) • Reading (1 hour per week-After Christmas 75 mins) • Ortho isdoneatschoolthisyear. • Someodds and ends activitieswillbeposted on the site. • Textbooksalwaysavailable to take home.

  10. Other • Data Notebooks (LIM)-I amproud of… • I amproud of wall… • PersonalizedWriting Portfolio (SIP) • Student desks. • Grade 5 social issues/preparation for Grade 6.

Displicine Policy • Follow class expectations (willbepostedshortly) • Infraction/Issue #1-Name on the board. • Infraction/Issue #2-checkmark besideyourname. • Infraction/Issue #3-stay in atnextrecess. • Infraction/Issue #4-call home. • Infraction/Issue #5-Administration (green form).   12. Reward System • Studentbankaccounts. • Students are given ‘money’ for positive behaviour, whichisdeposited in theirbankaccount and whenthey have a sumitcanbeused to buyprizes. • Prizes are stayingawayfromfood items and focus on non-foodrewards and the ‘experience’.
