  2. What is an honors track? A number of special courses, with a total load of 30 ECTS, offered to a selection of master students, to test and develop capabilities for design or research.

  4. Honors track in design • Consists of design assignments, in whichknowledgefrommastercourses, is usedforsolving real-life problems in industry. • Design assignments: • Include company visits • Include company presentations. • Gradingbased on: valuefor company, innovativeness

  5. Honors track in design Involved companies include: • ASML, • Océ, • Philips Healthcare, • Nike, • Bausch&Lomb, • Proctorand Gamble • Kuehne+Nagel • Floraholland

Honors track in design: Advantages • Development of extra design skills • Priority forpositionswithin the designer’s program Logistics Management Systems, after the completion of the master (positionguaranteedwhenyou have goodresultsduring the master!) • LMS program canbedone in 1-1.5 yearsinstead of 2 years • LMS program leads to PDEngtitle, professional doctorate in design.

  7. Honors track in research • Offered by the Director of the Graduate Program Industrial Engineering, Prof. Dr. G.J. van Houtum • Starts per September 1, 2012

Honors track in research • Consists of: • Two mini-research projects to discover two different reseach fields, in 1st year (10 ects per project) • PhD courses, in 2nd year (10 ects in total) • Master thesis project: • Is preceded by the writing of a PhD research proposal (instead of literature study and formulation thesis assignment) • Proposal can be used to compete for grants (at e.g. NWO) • Master thesis is on first part of the PhD research proposal • Additional PhD courses can be followed in 2nd year of master, as part of the electives

Honors track in research: Advantages Development of extra research skills Ideal preparation for continuation as PhD student after completion of the master program Equivalent to research (Mphil) masters, as seen at Tilburg University and Erasmus University Priority for positions within the PhD program of Industrial Engineering PhD program can be done in 3 instead of 4 years
