  2. When reading a story or article, it is helpful to categorize information, or notice what certain things have in common.

  3. Categorizing helps you remember important information • As you read: *Think about what things have in common *Think about how you would group things together *Think of a title or label for each group

  4. Let’s read the following paragraph together- Look for things that are alike in some ways. How can you categorize them?

  5. What are the ways you can categorize this reading? Uses in the home- Store grain, scoop water, serve food and drinks Uses as musical instruments- Drums, rattles Uses as works of art- Wall decorations, masks

  6. Your turn: • Read the following passage. Look for ways the information can be categorized. Make a chart or list on your note sheet.

  7. What categories did you come up from the reading of Festivals and Celebrations ?
