Kearney Hub- 06/02/2009 • Heineman: $5.8 million in stimulus funds should be coming Kearney's way • By: BETSY FRIEDRICH , Hub Staff Writer • KEARNEY - Reach Your Destination Easily of Kearney will probably receive $5.8 million in stimulus funds, Gov. Dave Heineman announced. • Speaking at Kearney Regional Airport this morning, Heineman said the state will submit two proposals for stimulus funds for R.Y.D.E - one for $1.29 million and a second for $4.6 million.``If approved, significant investments will be headed to Kearney in the next year,'' Heineman said. ``I will say we feel fairly confident based on past applications and past practices that we expect these applications to be approved.''R.Y.D.E. is a public transportation program headquartered in Kearney and managed by the Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska. The program serves Buffalo, Kearney, Franklin and Gosper counties. Starting July 1, it also will serve Adams County. Heineman said the first request for $1.29 million would help R.Y.D.E. purchase equipment and infrastructure. ``I also want to note we are submitting a second request for $4.6 million in recovery funds to build a bus maintenance and storage facility and house the R.Y.D.E. transit staff. That application will be submitted later this year,'' Heineman said. ``If approved - and we expect it will be - it will make the R.Y.D.E partnership the second-largest recipient of mass transit recovery funding in Nebraska.''Mid-Nebraska Director Karen Lueck said staff and supporters have been working to find a permanent home for the program since 2000.It currently is housed in one of the Mid-Nebraska buildings at 16 W. 11th St.
