  1. 5 Minute Film

  2. Plot • For my film, I would like to produce a narrative about a young woman suffering with severe depression. The audio will be of the woman talking, this will be recorded separately and edited over the top of the film. In the over voice, she will be talking calmly and in control about herself and her life meanwhile the moving image will show her out of control, irrational and depressed. The location will be at an abandoned house in Derry Hill. The empty, ruined room she is in will represent the state of her mind – broken. Likewise, her appearance will be dishevelled and messy with dirty and ripped clothing.  Hopefully, my film will give the viewer the feeling of hopelessness, loneliness and a sense of being trapped, all through the speech, environment, and appearance.

  3. genre • My film will be a mixture of biographical, documentary and psychological drama. I also want the film to have a really unsettling vibe to it, but not quite horror. • My film doesn’t follow Todorov’s suggested storyline structure as there is no disruption or reinstatement of equilibrium. There is no progression to my story as it is more like a fictitious documentary.

  4. Making • I will be editing, filming and directing the film on my own. I chose not to work in a group because I wanted to be in complete charge of every thing from initial ideas to production. This also means I will take full responsibility everything - including mistakes. • I will be filming using a Canon 600D. I will be using equipment such as a tripod, monopod, lights and bounce boards. I will also need equipment for recording sound, however I have not planned that out yet. • I will use the tripod for stable shots and the monopod for fluid movements and over the head shots. The bounce board will be used to bounce light off my subject to make it look more natural.

  5. issues • One of the most important aesthetic aspects to my film will be the scenery and the subject. Finding a suitable model to act as my mentally unstable woman may be difficult, as in my mind I have an image of exactly the kind of person I want. The location will not be as difficult as I have a perfect place in mind. • One issue I may have with post-production practices, such as editing, will be getting the audio to flow in sync with the visual. Since the character will not be shown speaking, (all speech in an over voice almost like a commentary) it will not be a disaster if out of sequence slightly.
