  3. Women’s Fashion • Twiggy was the most popular model of the era. • Many people in this era was influenced by Jackie Kennedy by wearing her trademark “pill box hat.” • Women: • Bright colors • Mini skirts • Leather boots

  4. Men’s Fashion • Men: • Paisley Shirts • Velvet trousers • Bright colors • Later on in this era both men and women begin to were bright and the age of hippie was born. • Men wore their hair longer

Pop Culture • The decade of smiley faces was found on everything. • Skateboarding, started by surfers in California and who put rollers on pieces of wood. • The Flintstone premiered • Vintage Toys showed a heavy influence from children television shows. • Lady Chatterley’s Lover goes on sale after thirty- two years.

  6. 1960’s National Headlines • Two white public schools in New Orleans are the first to integrate. • The march on Washington took place on August 1, 1963. More than 200,000 people came from all over the country. The march was peaceful and orderly. • On November 22, 1963, JKF traveled to Texas to campaign. Governor Connally and his wife Nelly rode with Jackie and John in an open limo. Suddenly shots rang out and bullets struck Connallywounding him and killing JFK. • Two airliners collide over Staten Island, 134 died. • Emily Post, Queen of Etiquette dies • The worlds first weather satellite, Trios is launched. • 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, was bombed on September 15, 1963. The explosion killed four young women and the bombing marked a turning point for the Civil Right Movement in 1964.

  7. Cont. Headlines On April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was shot in Memphis, Tennessee at a motel. After this happened many riots and protest begun.
