  1. Honors Geometry 5/6 Sept 2012 1) Summarize your notes from yesterday on the bottom of your Cornell notes. 2) Place binder and text on your desk. 3) Warm-up: Use same sheet as yesterday.   2. Objective Students will be able to be able to identify, sketch and label, midpoint, lines and angles. Students will take notes and work collaboratively. Due TODAY- ART PROJECT Place it on top of your group folder.

  3. Tutoring Monday 3 – 3:45 Thursday 1:30 – 2:15 HOMEWORK DUE Friday: pg. 33 +: 18- 32 evens (use graph paper, use KWHCC– write basic info) pg. 37: 1 – 6 all If you have 3rd edition- find assignment from online textbook. See me if you have questions.

  4. HOMEWORK NORMS Homework is due at the beginning of class LATE homework will be accepted for no more than 70% credit. You must come in during a scheduled tutoring session and explain the homework, within ONE WEEK of the original due date. Homework will be graded based on completion. NORM-- write basic info/ show work If you don’t know what to do, WRITE down the basic info and what you are trying to find WRITE what you tried to do to solve and WRITE a question about your “point of confusion” If you follow these steps, showing me you made a good effort to complete your homework, you will get full points.

  8. practice 1) Write the midpoint formula on top of your paper. 2) Plot the points on graph paper. 3) Find the midpoint graphically and then algebraically, showing your set up for each.   10. An angle consists of two different rays that have the same initial point. The rays are the sides of the angle. The initial point is the vertex of the angle. The angle that has sides AB and AC is denoted by BAC, CAB, A. Point A is the vertex of the angle. Angle Vocabulary- summarize in your vocabulary section

  11. Name the angles in the figure: SOLUTION: There are three different angles. PQS or SQP SQR or RQS PQR or RQP Ex.1: Naming Angles You should not name any of these angles as Q because all three angles have Q as their vertex. The name Q would not distinguish one angle from the others.

  12. Note: • The measure of A is denoted by mA. The measure of an angle can be approximated using a protractor, using units called degrees(°). For instance, BAC has a measure of 50°, which can be written as mBAC = 50°. B A C

MEASURES ARE EQUAL mBAC = mDEF ANGLES ARE CONGRUENT BAC  DEF Note – Geometry doesn’t use equal signs like Algebra “is congruent to” “is equal to” Note that there is an m in front when you say equal to “the measure of the angle…… equals…..” The congruency symbol  says “same shape (angle)” “same size”. “Angle BAC is congruent to…..”
