Background • Globally, only 40% of people with HIV know their HIV status and in some settings up to 50% of HIV-positive people have HIV-negative partners. • In Uganda, approximately 90% of men and women do not know their partners HIV status. • Among heterosexual couples, less than 20% of male partners of pregnant women receive HIV testing during ANC, labour or post delivery.

  4. Innovative Strategies Currently being Implemented at Mulago Hospital • Couple testing in ANC and at labor/delivery and at the point of discharging the mother • Writing letters to male partners inviting them to attend ANC • Community sensitization • Testing men in the evenings and at night
