The Enuma Elish Genesis When in the height heaven was not named,And the earth beneath did not yet bear a name,And the primeval Apsu (fresh water god), who begat them, and chaos, Tiamut (salt water god), the mother of them both,Their waters were mingled together… Sound familiar? The opening passage of this myth reads: In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss (chaos), while a mighty wind swept over the waters (Gn. 1: 1-2)

The god Ea warns Utnapishtim to build a boat and use pitch. Yahweh warns Noah to build an ark and cover it in pitch. Every species of animal is to be brought on the ark as well as Noah’s family. Every species of animal & skilled craftsmen are to be saved, as well as family. Flood comes and destroys all life. Flood comes and destroys all life. Ark comes to rest on the top of Mr. Arart. Utnapishtim builds altar and sacrifices to the gods. Gods smell sweet odor. Noah builds an altar and sacrifices to Yahweh. Yahweh smells sweet odor Enlil repents of his decision to destroy the earth Yahweh promises never again to destroy the earth by flood.
