  4. Colors Everywhere we go colors are apparent. The world is filled with different types of colors: primary, secondary, and tertiary. Through this lesson you will learn what is meant by these categories and how these colors can be mixed to create new colors. Back Continue Main Menu

  5. Primary Colors • Primary colors are the basis of all colors. • Primary colors include: • Red • Yellow • Blue Continue Back Main Menu

  6. Secondary Colors • Secondary colors are simply primary colors combined to make a new color. • Secondary colors include: • Orange • Green • Violet Continue Back Main Menu

Now try to make your own secondary colors! • Go to http://painting.about.com/library/blpaint/blcolormixingpalette1.htm • Follow the directions and by only using the primary colors, create the following secondary colors: • Red + Yellow = Orange • Yellow + Blue = Green • Blue + Red = Violet Continue Back Main Menu

  8. Tertiary Colors • These colors are created when adjacent colors on the color wheel are mixed. • Tertiary colors include: • Red/Orange • Yellow/Orange • Yellow/Green • Blue/Green • Blue/Violet • Red/Violet Continue Back Main Menu

  12. Color Schemes Color schemes are simply groups of colors that work harmoniously together and are appealing to the eye when placed together. Color schemes consist of monochromatic schemes, analogous schemes, complementary schemes, and triadic schemes.   14. Analogous Schemes • This scheme consists of adjacent colors on the color wheel. • Examples: • Red • Yellow • Blue Continue Back Main Menu

  15. Complementary Schemes • This scheme consists of complementary colors or colors that are across from each other on the color wheel. • Examples: • Red/Green • Yellow/Violet • Blue/ Orange Continue Back Main Menu

  16. Triadic Schemes • This scheme consists of colors placed 120 degrees from each other on the color wheel. • Examples: • Yellow/Green-Red/Orange-Blue/Violet • Red-Yellow-Blue • Orange-Green-Violet Continue Back Main Menu
