  2. Interesting Facts you Must Know • about Lexan Plastic Fact 1: Background There is the general misconception that Lexan is a type of plastic or material. On the contrary, the Lexan modular panel does not indicate a panel made of a material called Lexan, but a material with brand name Lexan. Lexan is, in fact, a polycarbonate resin thermoplastic, which can deform under extreme heat. It belongs to a family of thermoplastics, which can deform significantly without breaking or cracking under heat. The polycarbonate sheets formed from such deformation have impact strengths 30 times greater than acrylic and 250 times greater than glass.

  3. Interesting Facts you Must Know • about Lexan Plastic Fact 2: Benefits Its ability to remain intact even after significant deformation is one of the key attributes of Lexan polycarbonate. Some of its other attractive attributes include high impact resistance, low rigidity (allowing for purchase in flexible grades, ability to handle temperatures up to 240 degrees Fahrenheit, ability to be drilled through without cracking, resistance to chemicals like gasoline and acids, low flammability, etc. Though Lexan does come with its share of cons, the unique chemical makeup of the material allows it to be moulded into anything from a flexible sheet for a DVD to a rigid, tough barrier that can stop a bullet.

  4. Interesting Facts you Must Know • about Lexan Plastic Fact 3: Uses Lexan polycarbonate enjoys a wide range of uses, with its applications reaching out far beyond the standard Lexan modular panel used in windows. Lexan polycarbonate, in fact, finds its best use in areas where protection precedes aesthetics (for example, where an extremely resistant protective surface is preferred to a fancier but less protective surface). That is why, Lexan polycarbonate is considered as the best material for certain products like window well covers, reusable drinking bottles, automobile windows, automobile windshields, moulds for silicone and urethane castings, computers, phone cases, machinery guards, transparent visors for hockey/football helmets, LED diffusers and light pipes, bullet resistant glass, etc.
