  1. THE PREACHING OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD: Text: Luke 16:16 Luk 16:16 "The law and the prophets [were] until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it.

Intro: • For people to vote a candidate for election, they shall be informed who he is. • For people to buy certain products, it shall be advertised to them. • For people to be interested in the kingdom of God, it shall be preached to them. AIM: • For us to be earnest and desirous for the kingdom of God.

  3. I. THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS `PROPHESIED ABOUT JESUS • It is only when Jesus came that the kingdom of God could take place in us • He is the fulfilment of the prophecy • The kingdom of God wasn’t preached in the O.T. • There was a form of monopoly when it comes to religion or salvation • John 4:22 "You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews • They held themselves of high esteem because of that but without the kingdom of God

JOHN CAME PREACHING THE KINGDOM OF GOD • Mat 3:1 In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, • Mat 3:2 and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!“ • John was the first one to preach the kingdom • People in the O.T. heard nothing about the kingdom • Nowadays, we are in the N.T. but lots of people haven’t heard the gospel of the kingdom

FOR THIS REASON JESUS CAME • Luke 4:43 but He said to them, "I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent. • We always hear that Jesus came so that we might have life more abundantly-John 10:10 • He came to destroy the works of the devil-I John 3:8 • John 18:37 Pilate therefore said to Him, "Are You a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say [rightly] that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

Jesus was sent to preach the gospel of the kingdom and so with the Apostles • Mar 1:14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, • Luke 8:1 Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve [were] with Him, • Luke 9:2 He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick • Mat 10:7"And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.‘

  7. Act 20:25 "And indeed, now I know that you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, will see my face no more. IV. WE WERE COMMANDED TO SEEK FIRST THE KINGDOM AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS-Matt 6:33 • He didn’t even command us to seek Him but the kingdom • Why would people seek for a thing they haven’t heard about? • If the gospel you heard is not about the kingdom, that is not the gospel Jesus preached, not the gospel he wanted us to preach and hear

Gal 1:6 I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, • Gal 1:9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. • It’s not because you go to church or religious you are in the kingdom. • First of all for us to seek the kingdom, we should hear the gospel of the kingdom. • No wonder the end would not come until the gospel of the kingdom is preached. • .

  9. Mat 24:14 "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come V. THE RESULT OF PREACHING THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM-Luke 16:16 • Everyone is pressing into it • People became desirous or earnest about it • Pressing because narrow is the way and only few has found it. • Pressing also signifies difficulty or opposition.

Act 14:22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting [them] to continue in the faith, and [saying], "We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God." • Pressing signifies pressure. • Illustration: riot with shop looting • They break glasses to enter and steal valuable things. • Mat 11:12 "And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force.

  11. VI. PREACHING AND HEARING THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM IS THE LAST COURT OF APPEAL-V 16-31 • The rich man prayed to Abraham to send Lazarus to his father’s house-v 27 • He doesn’t want his 5 brothers to go to hell-v 28 • Abraham said they have to hear the prophets esp. those who preach the gospel of the kingdom-v 29 • The rich man insisted it would be better that a person will rise from the dead to tell them so they would repent-v 30 • If they do not hear the gospel, they would not listen to the dead-v 31.

  12. CHALLENGE: • How often do you hear the gospel of the kingdom? • Are you seeking or pressing into the kingdom? CONCLUSION: Luke 16:16 "The law and the prophets [were] until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it.
