  8. 1- He leaned to look at the hole. 2- He leaned to catch the dumbbells.

  9. leaned • (past of lean) bent (from the waist). • Ex: She leaned over her daughter to hear what she said.

  10. 1- The enormous flower startled the man. 2- That black spider startled the boy.

  11. startled • ( past of startle) shocked • Ex: The loud voices startled the baby and made him cry.

  12. 1- I read books to search for new words. 2- The police uses dogs to search for thieves.

  13. search • to look for something missing or lost. • Ex: • when I go to the beach, I search in the sand for nice shells.

  14. 1- The old man was grateful to the boy who helped him. 2- We all should be grateful to our teachers.

  15. grateful • thankful. • Ex: • We all should be grateful to our mothers. .

  16. 1- The chief tossed the pizza into the air. 2- He tossed the coin to see who will start the game.

  17. tossed • (past of toss) threw. • Ex: They tossed their bags into the car.
